an office suite OpenOffice.org is free software and free open source distribution that includes tools such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentations tools for vector drawing and database. Available for many platforms such as Microsoft Windows and Unix-like systems like GNU / Linux, BSD, Solaris and Mac OS X. OpenOffice is designed to be highly compatible with Microsoft Office, with whom he competes. It supports the OpenDocument ISO standard so it is easy to exchange documents with many other programs, and can be used free of charge. OpenOffice.org has
initial basis StarOffice, an office suite developed by StarDivision and acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999. The source code of the suite was released in July 2000. Currently provides an open alternative, free, high quality comparable to Microsoft Office suite. The source code of the application is available under the LGPL license.
The project and program are called "OpenOffice" informally, although "OpenOffice.org" is the full official designation as the openoffice is a registered trademark held by another company. The full official name is abbreviated as OOo. Source: Wikipedia

... I use and have used it in its different versions and the balance is positive for other compatible ... 100x100 with Microsoft suite (Office), in my case before happen to Linux, had already replaced Microsoft Office suite for the same ...
only thing I have noticed, is not automatically opening files with extension "pps (Microsoft PowerPoint) from the mail or webmail, as in the case of Hotmail (common for the propagation of such files) . Although thanks to "San Google" I found a plugin for the corresponding program in Open Office (Impress), which partly solves this little problem.
Otherwise, highly recommended
Excellent, Open Source and Free ... need anything else?
