The GNU General Public License , better known by its English name GNU General Public License or just its initials in English GNU GPL is a license created by the Free Software Foundation in 1989 (the first version), and is aimed primarily at protect free distribution, modification and use of software . Its purpose is to declare that the software covered by this license is free software and protect ownership attempts to restrict these freedoms to users. There are several licenses
"sisters" of the GPL, as license GNU Free Documentation (GFDL), the Open Audio License for musical works, etc., and other less restrictive, as mgpl , or LGPL (Lesser General License publish it before publish it General License Library), which enable dynamic binding of free applications to non-free applications.
The GPL, as a document that gives certain rights to the user, takes the form of a contract, which usually is called a license agreement or license agreement. There is a proliferation of free licenses that add some condition to another compatible with the GPL license (which they are based), making it difficult to determine whether the new license is compatible or not with the GPL. Netbooks are becoming very popular, and Ubuntu could not stay behind. What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu (IPA: / ubuntu /) is a Linux distribution based on Debian GNU / Linux that provides an updated and stable operating system for the average user, with a strong focus on ease of use and installation of the system. Like other distributions are composed of multiple software packages typically distributed under a free license or open source. It is sponsored by Canonical Ltd., a British company owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth that instead of selling for profit distribution, is financed through operating system-related services and selling support. Furthermore, by keeping it free of charge, the company is able to leverage developers community in improving the components of your operating system. Canonical also supports and provides support for four derivatives of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu and Xubuntu Ubuntu server-oriented ("Ubuntu Server Edition." Every six months a new release of Ubuntu which is supported by Canonical, for eighteen months, by means of security updates, patches for critical bugs and minor updates of programs. The LTS (Long Term Support), which is released every two years, three years are supported in the desktop and five server-oriented edition. The current version of Ubuntu 9.10 ("Karmic" is released on October 29, 2009 and the next version, 10.04 (code name: Lucid Lynx), scheduled to be released on April 29, 2010.

And if you want to have desktop effects provided by Compiz, then the minimum processor power amounted to 1.2 GHz and must have a compatible graphics card.
